Little Gem
Little Gem is a sweet little raglan coat. I was watching the iconic film Ghandi while designing this and noted the collar on Nehru’s jacket (he was the first Prime Minister of India). The jacket is worked from bottom to top and the sleeves worked separately, then sewn onto the raglan shaping. The garter stitch button-band/central-panel is added after you have completed the main body of the garment by picking-up stitches on the left and right fronts. Uncomplicated and effortless to make – a rhythmic pattern repeat which is soothing to work, consisting of a lacy motif and garter stitch.
“LUXURY MUST BE COMFORTABLE, OTHERWISE IT IS NOT LUXURY.” COCO CHANEL
I would go one stage further and say in our hectic fast-paced 21st century life we need to be practical too. Knitted in Merry O, double knitting superwash merino and silk, (machine wash and dry). For truly soft luxury this can also be knitted in Light Moonshine (alpaca, silk and cashmere). If using this yarn I suggest you block; wet thoroughly, lie out on a towel to dry naturally, making sure to pull out to define shape.
