Sometimes I really wonder about the magical attraction of the characters around Christmas time. Are you also as fascinated as I am? Well, I especially like the crocheted Santas with their companions. But I am absolutely in love with the gnomes and dwarfs.
If you’re just like me, here’s a very special crochet tutorial for you: a very cute Christmas gnome, carrying a cute reindeer piggyback.
I am quite sure that you will have a lot of fun while crocheting and that you can impress your family and friends with this decoration. Who knows, maybe they will want one of these from you too!

When creating the instructions, I paid special attention to the fact that the individual steps are described very precisely. Because I have also made many photos, the reworking should succeed without major difficulties. In total, the tutorial is 14 pages long with many colorful pictures. If you still have a question, then you can always write me a message, I’m happy to help.

If you are not* a complete beginner, you will have little trouble with one or the other stitch. If you know the basics of crochet, then you will be able to crochet your little Christmas gnome with the reindeer relatively quickly. The sewing of the individual parts is quite simple and described in detail.

A little tip: If you crochet the body of the reindeer longer, then you can also use this as a cute bookmark itself or give it away. What do you think, how much joy you can certainly give with it! If you feel like it, why not try different eyes. Maybe you like a tired, sleeping reindeer - there are no limits to your imagination here.

But now for the stitches you should know how to do.
slst = slip stitch
chst = chain stitch
sc = single crochet
bpsc = back post single crochet
fpsc = front post single crochet
tchst = turning chain stitch
st = stitch
rev sc = reverse single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet

It is also very important that you know the following techniques:
inc = increase (for this pattern, the technique „invisible increase“ is used; in general, you crochet 2 sc into 1 stitch)
dec = decrease (for this pattern, the technique „invisible decrease“ is used, in general you crochet 2 sc together)
sew on
tie knots

So, if you crochet the gnome with the wool and crochet hook size I described, it will be about 15 cm tall. I crochet rather compact - but if you crochet looser, then he will surely be a bit bigger and wider.

The diameter at the body is about 8 cm, when I measure from hand to hand, my tape measure shows about 14 cm.

For the crochet you don’t even need many materials. I like to work with polyacrylic wool, but you can use any other wool. But make sure that the size given refers to the thickness of the wool I used. If your wool is thicker or thinner, the size of the gnome will change, of course.

The following materials/tools/wool I used:.

  • Elisa-Easy, 100 % polyacrylic, 50 g, 125 m (red, white, grey, yellow, green)
  • Amigo by Hobbii, 100 % acrylic, 50 g, 175 m (skin color, brown)
  • Crochet hook 2,5 mm, pointed embroidery needle, scissors, cardboard and filling cotton, doll safety eyes 6 mm

If you crochet my “Little Gnome Reindeer”, may I ask you to consider the following points:

  • Have fun re-crocheting, but do not share/copy these instructions with your friends.
  • You are also welcome to sell this gnome, but please include my name as the designer.
  • You are not allowed to make your own tutorials by copying parts of my tutorial.
