Little Gnomes felted figures
Tension is really not crucial, and meterage is irrelevant as this is a bit of a stash-busting project. So, ignore the figures given!
This pattern was greatly inspired by Stephanie Dosen’s (Tiny Owl Knits) ‘Gnome Home’ DPN keepers. I got such enjoyment making those, that I simply wanted to prolong the fun!
These Little Gnomes are ornamental and don’t have any function what-so-ever, but are still jolly to have around. Although please do remember they are not toys, and should not be given to very young children, as the hats may come off and disappear into a very curious mouth! But you could hang them from your Christmas or Yule tree if you like (the ornaments, not the children…).
The figures are knitted flat, seamed then felted using hot water. They can have little beards or be clean-shaven, young or aged, silver-haired or carrot-tops, and the choice of colours is yours - you can go through the entire palette of shades, or make a matching set and call them clones, or make them in funky monochrome, but that would be like watching a black and white television (anyone remember them?). You can add teeny-tiny bells on their hats or you can leave them stealthy-silent.
Of course, the yarn you choose is up to you, just as long as you use a pure wool, feltable yarn! But if you would like to be in keeping with Wild Strawberry Makes’ ethos of ‘local, native, community’, try to use comparable yarn that is local to you, so that you can reduce air miles and help the planet, and support your local wool producers!! And, of course, help your local gnomes…
