Little Heartwarmer
Every baby deserves a heartwarmer:) A small, warming garment made from the heart! This little cardigan knits up fast and would be the perfect first little sweater.
Design
Little heartwarmer is a very simple knit with a clean style, yet with a cute touch:) It is an assymetrically buttoned cardigan, featuring 2 different stripe-patterns (created by simple k and p rows).
Construction
The cardigan is worked top-down starting from the upper back and a provisional cast on. Upper back and fronts are worked to underarms, where the pieces are joined and worked in one piece to the bind off. The sleeves are worked in the round from picked-up-sts. The collar is worked from picked-up sts.
Sizes
There are 4 sizes to choose from: newborn, 3 months, 6-9 months, 12-18 months. Please check the measurement of the child before deciding which size to work!
Materials
Yarn:I used Eden Cottage “Bowland DK” to work the cardigan. This yarn comes in skeins of 100gr/3.73 oz and 224m/243yards. You will need approximately 280/320/350/400 yards of this specific yarn to work the cardigan. Please note that the yardage needed can change from one knitter to another.
Needles: Straight needles, or a circular needle, 80cm/32”, needle size 4mm/US6 to work the upper body. A circular needle 80cm/32”, needle size 4mm/US6 for the lower body. A set of dpns, size 4mm/US6 (or a circular needle if working the magic loop) to work the sleeves. Straight needles, or a circular needle, 3mm/US2.5 to work the collar. Notions: stitch-markers, separate holders, 7/8/9/10 buttons to match the buttonholes, tapestry needle, row counter.
Gauge 22 sts and 36 rows in stripe-pattern (3 rows of k sts, 1 row of p sts) = 10x10cm/4x4”-
Knitting skills Average (adventurous beginner). Skills needed are: provisional cast on (optional), picking up sts, making increases and decreases.
