This pattern is a very easy knit using a cute peerie Shetland motif, which looks like little hearts in boxes. The motif is very easy and when you have set up the first round, you will not have to look at the chart again until the round to insert your thumbs.

The thumb is easy to knit. I have added a written instruction and photo tutorial to take you through all the stages to produce neat little thumbs in your mitts.

The Pattern uses 3 listed 4ply colours from Jamiesons of Shetland but you can knit it in 2 colours or as many colours as you would like to use from your stash. It’s a very quick and joyful knit with endless colour possibilites.

Yarn: One x 25g ball of each of the following Jamieson’s of Shetland, Spindrift. 4ply fingering-weight yarn. 100% Pure Shetland Wool. Length 105m (25g) OR any 4ply weight yarn that you might have in your stash.

You can also use JC Rennie Scottish Supersoft Lambswool 4ply

I have used 3 colours in each of my knitted examples, in order to make the knit reasonably priced

Colours used in pattern chart: Jamiesons of Shetland Pebble / Moorgrass / Mermaid /
2nd example of colours used in images is knitted with Jamiesons of Shetland Dewdrop / Raspberry / Cherry

Needles: -
1 set of 2:5mm UK double-pointed needles (DPN’s) for the Ribs and thumbs
1 set of 3mm UK double-pointed needles (DPN’s) for the colour work chart area of the mitts.

Pattern Size: - One Size to fit Medium Adult hands. Circumference above the thumb – 8:5 inches / 21:5 cm. Length from the bottom of cast on rib to the last round of finger rib – 8 inches / 20 cm BUT, if you used double knitting yarn instead of 4 ply, your mitts would be bigger.

Tension:- 33 rows and 33 stitches to 10 cm measured over the pattern using 3mm UK needles and 4ply yarn.

I loved knitting this quick and easy mitts set for a Christmas present. But then again, I might keep them.

Happy knitting.
