This is a pdf knitting pattern, written in English, using standard US terminology, for you to knit a Lion Bonnet & Tail.

This Lion Hat is not only a fun, animal hat photo prop for your baby photography sessions but also a wonderful costume for your baby to wear on their first Halloween.

As well, it is a wonderful addition to your 18” doll’s wardrobe!

Please, use this newborn lion outfit with supervision.

SIZES: Preemie, Newborn, 0-3 Months, 3-6 Months, 6-12 Months, 18” Doll

This pattern is well-suited to a beginner knitter. Knit flat, then seamed.

It requires worsted weight yarn on 5mm (US8) needles. And, you will also need chunky yarn for the mane. You will need to know how to cast on, knit, purl, and knit two stitches together.

You will also need to know some basic crochet stitches as you will be chaining the bonnet ties and slip stitching across the bonnet. Alternatively, you could attach sari silk or chiffon ribbons instead for the ties.

MY GAUGE: 17 to 18 sts + 23 to 24 rows (depending upon the brand of worsted weight yarn I’m working with at the time) = 10x10 cms / 4”X4”
