This pattern does not teach you how to paint your doll.
You’ll need:

4mm hook
4 weight yarn (crafters secret big idea or caron one pound)
poly-fil
wire for support inside the doll
saftey eyes of your choice
tapestry needle
scissors
stitch marker

optional:
puffy paint
hemostat for stuffing the doll
miniature horn or 3d printed instrument
feather for the shako hat

You may choose to use cotton yarn or a smaller weight yarn when making this pattern; just be sure to drop your hook size down to your crochet tight with no holes between your stitches.
