Little Organists & Choristers
Tension is really not crucial, and meterage is irrelevant as this is a bit of a stash-busting project. So, ignore the figures given! You have to stay loose to felt in any case.
These Little Organists and Choristers are ornamental could be given as ‘Well done!’ presents to children who have won chorister medals or passed music exams, or to young people who have successfully applied for choral or organ scholarships. Or given ‘just because’ and made as ‘mascots’ for special people, young or, er, more mature.
Although please do remember they are not toys, and should not be given to very young children, as music folders or ruffs may come off and disappear into a very curious mouth! But you could hang them from your Christmas or Yule tree if you like (the ornaments, not the children…).
The colour of robes will be dictated by the foundation your special person works at, and whether it’s a Royal foundation or not. Or you could just make your own little scarlet-clad choir, stick ‘em in front of a boom box and play a recording of the Nine Lessons Advent service very loud!
The figures are knitted flat, seamed then felted using hot water.
Of course, the yarn you choose is up to you, just as long as you use a feltable yarn! But if you would like to be in keeping with Wild Strawberry Makes’ ethos of ‘local, native, community’, try to use comparable yarn that is local to you, so that you can reduce air miles and help the planet, and support your local wool producers!!
