PATTERN NOTES:

This cardigan is worked seamlessly from the top down. The sleeves are separated from the body at underarm level, then worked in the round. Stitches are picked up along the fronts and the neckline to work the shawl collar and button bands. The shawl collar is worked using German short rows (detailed explanations and link to video tutorial provided).

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Casting on, knitting, purling, increasing, decreasing, knitting in the round, picking up stitches, working German short rows (detailed explanations and link to video tutorial provided), binding off.

SIZES:

3mo (6mo, 12mo, 18mo // 2yo, 4yo, 6yo, 8yo, 10yo)
To fit chest: 16 (17, 18, 19 // 21, 23, 25, 26.5, 28) inches or 40.5 (43, 45.5, 48.5 // 53.5, 58.5, 63.5, 67.5, 71) cm

Garment chest at underarms: 20.5 (22.25, 23, 24.75 // 27, 28.75, 30.5, 32.25, 34.25) inches or 52 (56.5, 58.5, 63 // 68.5, 73, 77.5, 82, 87) cm

I recommend choosing a size based on the recipient’s actual chest measurement instead of the age label. You can also choose a size according to how much ease you’d like the garment to have.

YARN REQUIREMENTS:

Approximately 325 (375, 450, 525 // 625, 750, 900, 1000, 1100) yds or 297 (343, 411, 480 // 571, 686, 823, 914, 1006) meters of worsted weight yarn

The 3mo sample above is shown in MOTA by Wooldreamers (colorway Natural Grey). Please note this yarn is sold as a DK but I think it’s closer to a Worsted. This yarn isn’t superwash. You can substitute any yarn of the same weight if you achieve the recommended gauge.

GAUGE:

19 sts x 28 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm in textured stitch using larger needles, after blocking
Please adjust needle size if needed to achieve the recommended gauge.
