This pattern is best for intermediate experienced crocheters

This pattern is more of a tutorial for making a unique, semi free-form piece of coral. Pattern directions are included for the coral base, coral pieces, and the starfish. I include helpful tips about how to change the size and shape of your piece to help you create something original.

Gauge is not really important for this project, as long as you crochet tightly enough so that the stiffing will not show through your work.

This is a great project to tackle if you want to use up scrap yarn, since the coral pieces and starfish only use small amounts.

I originally made this coral piece using acrylic yarn- I am allergic to natural fibers :( but you can experiment with different types, sizes, and colours.
