Little Snow Flowers features a fun, easy-to-learn stitch pattern and uses just a small amount of contrast color yarn to achieve a big visual impact - the perfect use for a tiny bit of leftover yarn!
The pattern includes sizing from child through adult large, so you can knit this hat for the whole family.
This pattern really lends itself to gift knitting, too. Use the same background color paired with different contrast colors to create “matchy/ not matchy” mother/daughter, boyfriend/girlfriend, or sibling sets.

This is a sister pattern to the sport-weight Snow Flowers Hat. After a bunch of requests to convert the pattern to use fingering/sock yarn - well, here you go!

Sizes: Child (adult S, M, L) with finished circumference of approximately17 (18.5 20, 21.5)”/43 (46, 50, 54) cm, intended to be worn with approximately 2”/ 5 cm negative ease (hat circumference smaller than head circumference).

Difficulty: Beginner. The stitch pattern is easy to learn. This hat is worked in the round.

Yarn selection: Fingering/ sock yarn. The pattern will look best with a strong contrast between the hat’s background color and the accent color.

  • Main color: approximately 40 (50, 55, 60) grams/ 190 (210, 230, 250) yards/ 175 (190, 210, 230) meters
  • Contrast color: approximately 3 - 4 grams/ 12 - 16 yards/ 12 - 16 meters for all sizes

Gauge: 28 sts and 36 rows to 4”/ 10 cm in stockinette stitch, unblocked.

Needles: US 3/ 3.25 mm or size needed to achieve gauge. This hat is worked in the round. A 16”/40 cm circular needle will be comfortable for all but the child size, which will need to be worked either on double-pointed needles or a much longer circular needle, if you prefer the Magic Loop method. All sizes will need dpns/Magic Loop as the number of stitches decreases at the crown of the hat.
