A free little duck pattern inspired by The Little Yellow Duck Project, a worldwide project to try and raise awareness of blood and organ donation.

We, some knitters in South Africa, have been busy with a competition between the North and the South, to see which team can release the most ducks for The Little Yellow Duck Project during the month of August.
I knitted all but one of my ducks from this pattern which I tweaked as each duck evolved, and have chosen this, the first day of Spring, to release it…
… and what a glorious day it has been, warm and sunny and full of the promise of summer!

This pattern is free, to try and encourage others to pick up some yellow yarn and needles and get involved in the fun, (mostly selfless) pursuit of creating little ducks and leaving them in public places (“releasing them in the wild”) for others to find and register on the Little Yellow Duck Project map.

Materials required:
Approx. 5 g fingering weight yarn
2mm needles
Tapestry needle
Orange Felt, thread and needle for attaching beak
Black beads for eyes/ black yarn to stitch on eyes
Stuffing

Obviously this can be knitted in any weight yarn, although the duck’s size will change and his/her shape may change a little depending on type of yarn used and gauge.

This pattern has not been officially tested, other than by me - I have knitted eight little ducks from it. Please contact me with any errors, should you find one.
