Clover, genus Trifolium, is a member of the pea family and is also known as the Shamrock, the traditional Irish Symbol. It grows almost everywhere but temperate areas of the northern hemisphere show the most variety. Clover makes a tasty, nutritious fodder, fixes nitrogen in soil, and is loved by pollinators. It generally has 3 leaves, but occasionally 4-, 5- and 6-leafed clovers are found. Finding a 4-leaf clover is said to bring good luck. The record set in 2009 for most leaves was 56! The phrase “ living in clover” is a metaphor for living a life of ease and abundance.

This toe-up sock has a lacework pattern on the instep that resembles a 3-leafed clover and has a fancy lacework ribbed pattern for leg. Leg can be worked any length. If made in green, this sock would make a spectacular St Patrick’s Day accessory. Stitch patterns are provided as charts only.

Needles: 1 or 2 circular needles, 24-in (60 cm), size 2.0 mm (US 0). Optional larger size needle for more leg ease: circular needle size US 1 (2.25 mm).
