Endometrios, felbelägen livmoderslemhinna, är en kronisk gynekologisk sjukdom som innebär ektopisk växt av livmoderslemhinna, alltså att livmoderslemhinna växer utanför livmodern, oftast i äggledare eller bukvägg.

De vanligaste besvären är smärtor före och under menstruation. Smärtorna kan vara så svåra att man kräks, svimmar och är utslagen i flera dygn. Sjukdomen går inte att bota, bara att lindra.

Cirka 10 % födda med en livmoder världen över har endometrios. Kvalitativa studier visar att kvinnor upplever att de bemöts av bristande kunskap om endometrios inom icke-specialiserade vård. Detta upplevs försena diagnosen av endometrios och även behandling. Vårdbemötandet vid endometrios kan sannolikt förbättras internationellt och i Sverige.

About 10% born with a uterus worldwide has endometriosis. Studies show that women feel that they are being met by lack of knowledge of endometriosis in non-specialized care. This often delays the diagnosis of endometriosis and also the treatment. The research around endometriosis and other womens diseases should receive more attention.
