Originally designed as Yarn Refuge’s Sierra Nevada Yarn Crawl exclusive crochet pattern for 2024. Available during the yarn crawl with purchase of kit.
Will be available for individual purchase October 1, 2024.

The pattern calls for two skeins of The Plucky Knitter Sophisticate, one in a custom variegated colorway called, Rat Pack, and one coordinating solid color. For being a very open lace, the poncho is surprisingly warm.

The poncho is a simple rectangle with granny squares and continuous flat braid join elements.

For the large size you will make 6 granny squares and 8 for the extra large. Shown in extra large.

Gauge is not crucial but you do want a fluid drape to all the parts without over doing it. You may want to adjust your hook size up or down depending on how you crochet. I tend to be tight.

The granny squares can be made from the variegated color or the coordinating solid, your choice. I chose to make my squares with the variegated because I love the way it pools in crochet.

Depending on if you make 6 or 8 granny square you will use up about 60% of the color you choose for the granny squares and all of the body color.

I recommend wet blocking your granny squares before working the flat braid join so they are all the same size and stay square.

Fringe can be added if desired using the remainder of your granny square color.
