LK150 Canina Coat
I made this coat for my mum last Mother’s Day when she asked for something ‘a bit different’, and it was a big hit. :) Mum’s is pale blue, and she gets complements on it every time she wears it. The coat has a lovely cosy collar, and the hem falls in drapey folds. It looks great with a belt too!
This is a fun, quick and easy knit on a mid gauge machine at a tension of 20sts/24 rows to 4”. Apart from the sleeves, it is all straight panels, joined as you go. It has a rolled edge finish and only two seams to sew. It is one size and quite stretchy and accommodating. Shown on model with 36” bust, 5’9”. This will fit an Australian 10-14, basically small to large.
Beginners can make this as long as they know how to cast on and bind off, rehang sts from waste yarn, pick up edge sts to rehang, and decrease. I used a latch hook cast on and bind off throughout.
I used 2050 metres of Lincraft European Collection Angora Look yarn, 90% acrylic, 10% wool, which is 450m/100g and has a nice halo.
To substitute yarn, use a fingering to DK weight yarn with a soft haze, preferably with the same meterage/gram. A fibre content of blended acrylic, mohair or angora would work well. Anything too dense or heavy will drag the coat down. Scheepjes Stardust would be one possibility.
