The Local Hero Hat is intended to keep your head warm while marching, farming, teaching…or just doing what you do in community! This pattern was written for the Local Hero yarn created in Asheville, NC at Purl’s Yarn Emporium. Local Hero is a completely locally-sourced, milled, and dyed yarn dedicated to celebrating individuals who serve our local community through their commitment to justice, equality, and creativity. Each colorway honors a living local hero in Asheville, NC with 25% of sales of each hero’s colorway going to their community project. 100% of online sales of the Local Hero patterns also go to their projects. Patterns are free in the store with purchase of the yarn.

Note about the Hat: Begins with a deep 2x2 rib with a reverse stockinette section with extended lines from the ribbing. You can create a basic shaped hat or go longer for a more slouchy hat. Like with the Local Hero Fingerless Gloves, you will turn your completed piece inside out for the reverse stockinette effect with connected lines: a reminder of the transformative power of “behind-the-scenes” community work…plus, less purling!

Hat can be knit with 16” circular needle and dpns and/or using magic loop technique.
