Lochie Cowl is knit flat and then joined in the round using a three-needle bind-off. The cowl works up quickly and is a fun project. The style is easy to wear, adding warmth but no bulk around the neck.

This little cowl is rich in texture and colorwork but easy to knit. The two colorways used are simply alternated every two rows, with only one color used per row.

The broken garter pattern and the color changes are uncomplicated but interesting to work. A deep garter stitch border finishes off this project.

Lochie is the little sister of Lochlyn Shawl and Lochlyn Cowl. Once I began experimenting with this shape and size of cowl, I just couldn’t resist a second take on a Lochlyn cowl!

This pattern may be worked using either the included charts or the written instructions.

Sample shown was knit using 1 skein of Tosh DK in the colorway Court & Spark, and 1 skein in the colorway Resin.

Yardage required:

MC approx. 190 m / 206 yds
CC approx. 100 m / 108 yds

The MC is used in the body of the cowl as well as the deep garter border.

The sample measures approx. 18 inch / 46 cm depth at front from neck edge to point.

You may use DK or worsted yarn for this project, just be sure to check your gauge and adjust your needle size if needed.

Use up some odds and ends and make some gifts!
