Loewenburg
The Loewenburg is a hill created by vulcanism in the Siebengebirge, Germany. It is most popular as a destination for hiking trips nowadays as it hosts the ruins of the Loewenburg (Lion’s Stronghold) and because of the beautiful view. The castle was build in the 12th century and more and more parts were added through the ages until it was given up by the late 16th century.
The castle once belonged to the Counts of Sayn thus colors of the sample socks are inspired by the coat of arms of the Counts of Sayn while the Brocade stitch pattern is inspired by medival
fabrics that I imagine Mechthild might have chosen to display in the castle.
This pattern is written for the use of Magic Loop or two circular needles using the Terms needle 1 and 2. If you like to knit your socks on dpn’s Needle 1 and 2 would be equivalent to Needle 1 and Needle 3 and 4 to Needle 2.
The pattern features a toe up heel with a gusset but you can also decide to work the pattern cuff down or change out the heel.
Sizes: 56, 60, (64), 68, 72 Stitches
