Winter Hat Series - Season One
I’ve always loved herringbone stitch. I’ve always drooled over skeins of Malabrigo Rasta. I’ve always wanted to combine the two. Enter: Loey. It is perfect for you texture-obsessed, chunky- hat-wearers out there. A day project that makes for the perfect gift…or a present to yourself!
Notes:
- This hat is cast on at the brim. Decreases are made towards the top and the final stitches are cinched together with the remaining yarn.
- Please read the detailed notes provided about herringbone stitch. You should be comfortable with the stitch pattern and the skills required to begin a new row in the round before proceeding.
- Place a stitch marker to help you recognize the beginning of a new row. If your stitch markers do not fit on the larger needles, you can make one with some smooth scrap yarn.
- I attached a fur pom to the top of my hat. If you want to make a yarn pom, you will need an additional skein of yarn.
Yarn and notions:
- Approximately 80 yards/133 grams of super bulky yarn
Suggested yarn: Malabrigo Rasta (90 yards/150 grams). Colorways: Coronilla (brown) and Teal Feather (blue)
- US Size 13 (9.0 mm) 16 inch circulars
- US Size 19 (15.0 mm) 24 inch circulars
- US Size 19 (15.0 mm) double pointed needles (or the largest DPNs you have available – see detailed notes within the pattern)
- A stitch marker
- Tapestry needle and scissors
- Fur pom or yarn pom (optional)
Gauge:
Approximately 8 stitches per 4 inches of stockinette with smaller needles. Please read the detailed notes provided in pattern regarding gauge in Herringbone stitch.
Dimensions:
Approximately 16-18 inch circumference prior to stretching with smaller needles. Hat is approximately 10-11 inches tall without the pom.
