This Log Cabin Lapghan is a great project if you are new to log cabin knitting. It is a perfect project for knitters with basic knitting skills. Also, you need to know basic crochet stitch to join all squares in one piece. This throw is made from 16 square motifs knit in simple garter stitch with 4 logs around a centre.
I used arran weight yarn. You can use whichever yarns you like, but for the best result make sure they are all the same yarn weight. Also, you can use as many colours as you like. Your size will depend on your chosen yarn type, needle size, tension, and quantity of knitted squares. It is a great stash buster project!

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate.
Stitches used: k, p, yo, k2tog.
The pattern comes with written instructions and pictures.

TECHNIQUE: Square motifs are worked using log cabin knitting technique.
Also, you must know double crochet (dc) US single crochet (sc) st, mattress or any other sewing st for joining all squares if preferred.

MATERIALS REQUIRED
• Drops Nepal (shade 0100 off white) 2 x 50g balls 150m or 164yds, or any other Aran weight yarn.
• Drops Nepal (shade 0206 light beige) 1 x 50g ball 75m or 82 yds.
• Drops Nepal (shade 8038 light olive) 1 x 50g ball 75m or 82 yds.
• Drops Nepal (shade 8906 forest) 2 x 50g balls 150m or 164 yds.
• Drops Nepal (shade 0501 grey) 2 x 50g balls 150m or 164 yds.
• Drops Nepal (shade 3620 red) 10 x 50 g balls 750m or 820 yds.
NOTE (it is optional): I added one strand Drops Kid-Silk (shade 14 red) 3.5 x 25g balls 735m or 803 yds to my red yarn.
NB If you substitute another yarn for this afghan, check gauge (tension) and yardage.
• 1 Circular needle 5.00mm x 80cm (US 8).
• Tapestry needle.
• 1 Crochet Hook 3.50mm (US E/4) for joining motifs.

MEASUREMENTS AFTER BLOCKING
One size: 97cm x 97cm / 38in x 38in.

GAUGE (Tension): 17 sts and 36 rows = 10cm (4in), afghan being blocked and measured over garter st pattern, using 5.00mm (US 8) needle.
NOTE Needle size is only a guide- if you get too many stitches for 10cm, take a larger needle size. If you get too few stitches for 10cm, take a smaller needle size. It’s very important to check your gauge (tension) before starting as working to the wrong tension will mean your garment won’t be size shown.
NOTE Gauge is not crucial for this pattern.
