Lola the Lionfish
This idea first came to me after looking up ‘Crochet lionfish’ on Google and seeing very small amigurumi and many realistic AI-generated images. And so, I challenged myself to write a realistic lionfish pattern and make it no-sew. Unfortunately, I accomplished half of this as Lola does require minimal sewing. I’ve always thought that lionfish are such majestic creatures. I’ve always wanted to pet one but for obvious reasons, I cannot. So, in response, I have written up a pattern for you to make your very own huggable lionfish. Alternatively, if you don’t sew up her mouth, you can use her as a small purse or pencil bag. Lola is approximately 15in. long, and 4 in. wide, that’s enough to fit an entire cup of boba tea, a decent-sized wallet, keys, and phone, 12 clementines, or whatever else you can imagine. As noted from the picture, Lola’s fins defy gravity, this effect is achieved by ironing each fin and using a starch spray to stiffen the fibers. If you plan to make this a stuffed animal, then you don’t have to do this step but just note that your lionfish will be floppy due to the nature of the medium you are working with.
