Long Baby Wizard Hat
This should go without saying, but I’m going to say it anyway: Do not leave babies unattended in this hat. It is meant purely as a photography prop, not a functional, everyday hat to keep them warm.
This is a pattern that was inspired by the scarves worn by the students in the third and fourth Harry Potter movies. It is a play on the Long Baby Seuss Hat that I created a few years ago. I wanted to make my new niece a fun prop that would match the Weasley sweater that I made that would really complete a newborn photo shoot.
This hat is a pretty basic hat that is knit in the round, it just has the decreases really spaced out to create the extra long tail. You can use double pointed needles, or if you really hate using them like I do, you can use a longer circular needle and do the magic loop method. Since it only uses around 200 yards of yarn total, it can be used as a nice little stash-busting project.
The finished piece fits a newborn with a 12” circumference, unstretched.
If you have any questions, comments, or feedback on this pattern, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I have no delusions that the patterns I write are perfect.
