Long Leaf Lace Edging
This no-name, no-image reversible edging pattern from ca. 1875 The Lady’s Book of Knitting and Crochet, p.107 needed a few corrections. The edging pattern was paired with my Long Leaf Lattice pattern in the 1875 publication for making a shawl. There are 8 patterns rows. The beginning stitch count of 8 slowly increases to 11 stitches by row 6 and decreases to 8 stitches on the 8th row. All rows are “fancy” rows. The swatch is 1.25” wide, measured from header to a lace point.
This narrow lace can be blocked straight or curved.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, knit through back loop, purl, yarn over, knit and purl in a single yarn over, k2tog and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
20 yards of #10 crochet thread will make about 10 inches of Long Leaf Lace Edging at the stated gauge.
