In Canada, with cool weather about half the year, mittens are essential. These beautiful mitts can be worn comfortably from 5 C (41F) to -10 C (14F) (including wind chill) or maybe colder if you’re active, such as in snowball fight, snowshoeing, playing pond hockey, etc.

These mittens are quick to knit and the colour possibilities are endless. They make great gifts for friends and family, and best of all, they will keep your hands toasty warm.

Suitable for beginners and experienced knitters alike, this pattern has many photos and resources to guide you along the way.

In honour of my grandmother, whose mittens inspired all the mittens I have ever knit, all profits from the sale of this pattern will be donated to community initiatives and charitable causes in New-Brunswick, Canada.

One size fits most women’s S/M sized hands and larger needles can be used for a bigger mitten.

Dimensions when using patter gauge:
Circumference around palm: 8 ¼ ”; 21 cm
Length from base of thumb to tip: 4 ¾ ”; 12 cm
Total Length with cuff: 9 ¼”; 24 cm
Thumb length from base to tip: 2 ½”; 6 cm
Thumb circumference: 3”; 8 cm

Gauge:
21 stitches and 36 rows in 4” x 4” stockinette, un-blocked.

Darning needle

Scrap Yarn

Yarn:
3 colours of worsted weight yarn

Colours used in the pattern are:
Main colour: Briggs & Little Heritage in Sheep’s Grey (~60 g)
Contrast colour 1 : Briggs & Little Heritage in Grape (~30 g)
Contrast colour 2: Brooklyn Tweed Shelter in Hayloft (~5 g)

The first $100 dollars from the sale of this pattern was donated to the Canadian Red Cross for their flood relief efforts in New Brunswick following the 2018 spring flooding of the Saint John River.

Jan 2019 - $100 was donated to an inner-city school for their breakfast program in one of New Brunswick’s major urban centres.

Feb 2019 - $100 was donated to a New Brunswick public school to purchase books that grade 2 students will be able to keep.

Oct 2020 - The books were such a hit, and made such an impact with the students that $100 has once again been donated to an N.B. public school for books that students can keep.
