Longer Lemon Stitch
The original Lemon Stitch from Weldon’s Practical Needlework, vol. 11, p.8, ca. 1898 wasn’t quite what I wanted, so I added 2 more rows and changed a double yarn over to a single one. The new quick-to-learn pattern has a 6-stitch, 6-row repeat. 5 of the rows are simple k3, p3 ribbing.
For Weldon’s original Lemon Stitch, work rows 1 through 4 only. Thread color used is “Maize”.
It will take about an hour to make 3.5 to 4 inches of a 35-stitch-wide swatch.
Skills needed: cast on, knit, purl, yarn over, SK2P and bind off in knit stitch.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
60 yards of #10 crochet thread will make about 10 inches of a 35-stitch-wide strip in the stated gauge.
