Longitude Scarf
When you are knitting with a variegated/multicolored yarn, the colors sometimes bunch up and form “pools”. Some people like this effect, and design things to show off the effect. I am the opposite. I don’t care for the pooling, and have spent the last year or so exploring stitch patterns which will break up the colors, and prevent pooling. This is my favorite: it stretches out the colors into long lines of spots and speckles, almost like a woven scarf. If you have a special or beautiful yarn, this simple pattern will let that yarn shine.
This is also an incredibly versatile pattern: you can use a multicolored yarns, or try a single solid color and alternate with stripes of different colors, for speed stripes. Or use a different yarn every row, for a bright and colorful novelty yarn scarf.
This is a good beginner scarf pattern: it uses only knit and purl stitches. The fringes are made by leaving tails at the beginning and end of each row, and then tying them in place after the scarf is completed. It is about 58 inches long, and 7 inches wide.
This will require a size 11 circular needle, the longer the better, and about 300 yards of a bulky yarn. You can begin knitting as soon as you download the pattern
