Loom Knit Top Knot Baby Hat
This little baby hat was inspired by a needle knitting pattern I was using to knit hats for a local crisis pregnancy center. I wanted to convert it to round looms so that those who didn’t knit with needles would be able to enjoy it too. It knits up very quickly, has an easy stitch pattern, and no top shaping. It would make a great last minute shower gift or a wonderful contribution to charity.
Materials
Knitting Loom: Regular gauge hat loom with 44 pegs. DA Looms regular gauge baby hat loom was used in the sample.
Yarn: 70 yards of worsted weight yarn. Caron Simply Soft (Pistachio) was used in the sample.
Special Notes: Note that the loom used is not a newborn loom. I find that they usually make a hat that is too small for a newborn head. DA Looms makes a baby hat loom that is larger and is the perfect size for newborn and up.
If you substitute a different yarn, I strongly suggest knitting a few rows with the chosen yarn and loom to see how it knits up. You want the yarn to lift very easily over the pegs to make a soft hat. Also, test to see if a loop will stretch to an adjacent peg for the yarn overs. I have had very good results with Caron Simply Soft. I’m sure there are others that would work well too.
