Loopy Lopi
Loopy Lopi is a reverse engineer for those who love Brugðningar, an unavailable pattern. It is worked in the traditional Icelandic manner: Three tubes (the body and two sleeves) are knit bottom-up, which are then attached and worked together for the yoke.
The sample was knit in size XXL and used Encore Colorspun Worsted by Plymouth Yarn in colourway 7712 as the Main Colour and Red Heart Super Saver Solids in Dark Orchid as the Contrasting Colour.
The finished chest sizes and yarn requirements are:
S 34.5” (1000 yds MC, 180 yds CC)
M 37.25” (1050 yds MC, 180 yds CC)
L 40” (1100 yds MC, 180 yds CC)
XL 42.5” (1150 yds MC, 180 yds CC)
XXL 45.25” (1200 yds MC, 180 yds CC)
The pattern is six pages long, five of which are written information and instructions and the sixth is the chart for the stranded designs for the bottom, cuffs and yoke. The first, fifth and sixth pages contain colour, however, you may print the entire pattern in grey-scale and use it successfully.
This project includes the following techniques:
Casting on
Casting/binding off
Knit stitch
Purl stitch
Make One: Increase one stitch by lifting the bar of yarn in-between two stitches, place it on the left needle with the legs crossed over each other of this new loop (to avoid a hole), and then knit that loop as a new stitch.
Decreasing one stitch by knitting two stitches together.
Knitting in the round on a circular needle (twin-pin).
Knitting in the round using double-pointed knitting needles (DPNs or sock pins).
Grafting two short seams with Kitchener Stitch (there are many videos on the Internet demonstrating how to do this).
Following a colour chart
Stranded knitting (carrying one colour yarn behind your work as you knit with another).
