This design results from a convergence of two techniques: slip stitch mosaics and brioche. At first glance, you might think short rows were used to achieve the dynamic shifts in the pattern, but no short rows are used. And while the blanket appears to be worked using a 2-color stranded method, only 1 color is used at a time. The result creates a reversible, luxuriously squishy fabric with two distinct yet equally attractive sides. One side looks more like a traditional stockinette mosaic, but the fabric lays flat and does not roll as traditional stockinette must. The other side reveals a surprising textured effect, as shown in the photo below. This unisex blanket is very warm, yet lightweight. The pattern works well when combining a neutral color with a variegated with long color changes, or using 2 contrasting solids.

Revised version dated 10/9/2013 contains some clarifications and a couple of somewhat obvious corrections to Chart B: Row 1, sts 14 and 16 should be shown as brk+1 instead of just plain knits. Also, there was a stray brk+1 on st 18 on row 16.
