This pattern is specifically going to produce a had for an avg. to large 10 yr old all the way to a small adult. This is clearly based on their head circumference. That being said the basic formula for changing the size of the hat is in this pattern with a hat sizing reference guide so this hat can be made for someone as small as toddler or a large adult.

All the specific colors used to make this hat are in the pattern, so long as you are using a worsted weight yarn the brand doesn’t matter.

Gauge isn’t horribly important if you are measuring as you increase in those first rounds, because you can take that measurement to the hat size reference chart to know when to stop increasing.
