Lopo
Lopo Xavier is a traditional yarn and haberdashery located in the beautiful city of Porto, in Portugal! Founded in 1934, Lopo Xavier has a new generation running the business, preserving the architecture, the precious objects and Portuguese textiles tradition!
I visited the store last summer and I must say that all that beauty made a wonderful impact on me! As I was seated in the workshop’s room, having a chat with Maria João, I saw the delicate small curtains in a beautiful and particular fabric called “Chita de Alcobaça”! I immediately went down on the memory lane as my grandma’s favorite chairs were upholstered with this very same fabric! At this point I was deeply touched by the Portuguese traditions represented by Lopo Xavier and the little curtain’s fabric became a sweet memory that I had to transform into a knitting garment!
I started to play with Lopo Xavier Trianon yarn double held, looking for the perfect stitch motif! The textured fabric mimics the vertical lines of “Chita de Alcobaça” fabrics, where the tiny 1x1 cables represent delicate flowers and the exciting “reverse stranded” stitch reveals a unique fabric!
Lopo sweater have two sleeve options: short and long.
I like to think that anyone that will knit Lopo sweater can feel close to Lopo Xavier and Portuguese unique traditions!
