Lorraine's Lace 2.0
This is v2 of Lorraine’s Lace, which was originally published in 2017. It comes with an expanded #sizeinclusive range of sizes, as well as notes on ease and how to adjust the fit. There are also some updates to the fit of the original sizes and a new schematic with full measurements included.
If you previously purchased Lorraine’s Lace, check your Ravelry library for the updated version.
Lorraine’s Lace is a beautiful lace-backed t-shirt. Made from 100% cotton it’s a perfect summer knit - light enough to start making when it’s warm, it’ll be ready just as the weather starts to cool!
The top is knit bottom-up in the round, then split at the underarms to work the front and back separately. The main body of the shirt is in stockinette and the lace panel is described using a chart that cleverly uses repeats to keep it concise.
Note: the pattern requires you to read a chart, but it’s a relatively simple one that would be a great introduction to chart reading.
Difficulty
Intermediate (You can tackle this if you can read a pattern, knit, purl, do decreases and yarn overs and work in the round. You also need to be open to working with charts.)
Ease
Intended to be worn with 3cm (1”) positive to 7cm (3”) negative ease.
Sizes
1[2,3,4,5][6,7,8,9] with finished garment bust sizes of 74[84, 94, 104, 114][124, 134, 144, 154]cm (29[33, 37, 41, 45][49, 53, 57, 61]”).
Taking ease into account the bust size range is 71-161cm (28-64”).
See pictures for full schematic and measurements.
Gauge
17 sts and 25 rows to 10cm (4”) in stockinette.
The pattern has notes for adjustments you can make if your gauge is slightly off.
Recommended needles
5mm (US 8) needles for knitting in the round.
Usage
You may sell items made from this pattern, as long as you credit me on any online listings.
Terminology
The pattern is written with both Australian/metric and US/imperial terms and measurements.
Errata
26 September 2020
Row 2 in front neckline section says to Kst count, Kst count, Kst count. It should be K, P K. Pattern has been updated.
Yarn
Suggested yarn is KnitPicks Dishie, 3[3, 3, 4, 4][5, 5, 5, 5] balls. Approx 371[428, 501, 551, 600][696, 729, 786, 827]m (405[468, 547, 602, 655][761, 797, 859, 904] yd) for project.
If you need alternatives, here is a list of cotton or cotton blend yarns that have either been used for this top or which I think would work well with it. They’re roughly sorted by price, from most to least accessible. The links below are geared towards Australian knitters - if you live overseas (especially in America), you’ll be able to get some of the yarn much more cheaply if you look for local suppliers.
- Lily Sugar’n Cream
- Rico Creative Cotton Aran
- Bernat Handicrafter Cotton
- Fiddlesticks Finch
- We Are Knitters The Pima Cotton
- Wool and the Gang Shiny Happy Cotton
- kpc + jacqui fink soul aran
Please note that some of the links to yarns are affiliate links - the price you pay isn’t affected but it helps me out a little.
