Gauge

Gauge Is Not Critical But Will Affect Size And Yarn Requirements.

For Yarn Selection – Blocked Stockinette =
22 sts by 33 R = 4” (10 cm) sq

In Blocked Scales Pattern =
1 Large Scale 12 sts by 12 R = 1.5 x 1.7” (38 x 43 mm)
~ On Larger Needles.

1 Small Scale 10 sts by 10 R = 1.14 x 1.33” (29 mm x 34 mm)
~ On Smaller Needles.

Notes and Tips

The Public Side of the Shawl is the Purl side. However, for ease of use, the pattern is written and worked with the Knit side as RS.

These scales are not only dimensional but overlap a bit and flex like armor plates.

The directional YO closures and the inverse cdd will seem tedious and fiddly at first, like most new techniques. Remember learning cables? But you will get used to them.

You do need to pay attention to your knitting, but it has a logical progression.
