Love from Nanna Hat
When my children were tiny my mum handed them down lots of clothes that had either belonged to me or my younger sister in the 1980s or 90s respectively. Amongst all the wonderful dresses and hand knit cardigans was a beautiful pink hat that looked like a sea urchin. I searched in vain to find the pattern to make more of them once the girls had grown out of it as both of them absolutely loved it. As my mum had also long since misplaced the original pattern I decided to make a re-interpreted version of my own which keeps the overall visual impact but is worked with a slightly different textured stitch pattern and a lighter yarn weight. It seems to be a big hit with my youngest who insisted on modelling it for the pattern pictures and hasn’t taken it off since.
The yarn I used for the sample is actually listed as a DK weight yarn but it is very fine so I have treated it as a fingering weight and suggest that if you are using a substitute yarn you use a fingering weight one.
