Love Hard Spoke Hat
Show your love of cycling on your head--or make the perfect gift for the cyclist in your life!
The hat begins with an optional provisional cast-on. The brim is folded and joined with the cast-on edge. Staggered centered double decreases in the crown shaping set up the spoke pattern. Chain stitch spokes are embroidered after knitting, feeding into the crown decreases.
Pattern includes links to instructional videos for each step.
I created this design in memory of my sister Molly, who died in a bike accident. Her husband started the Chicago Theater Bike Ride in her honor, and each year it commemorates those who’ve been lost to the community. The mission of the Ride is to provide support to members of the arts community who are struggling after the death of a loved one, or a major catastrophe that has impacted them financially.
The event has grown to include a fundraising auction and I donated the original hat to that effort. I’m now making the pattern available to anyone who would like to knit it, with all proceeds going to the Ride.
