This is a great project for an advanced beginner who has knit projects in the round and is looking for an introduction to stranded colorwork knitting. Other techniques to practice in this piece include: tension, float management, and chart reading.

This sample was knit in Expression Fiber Arts Dewy DK in colorways Fetish (Color A) and Black Cherry (Color B).

You will need one skein each for Color A and Color B. If you get gauge, you should have enough yarn to make a second cowl, reversing the colors A and B.

Color A: 126 yds/115m
Color B: 119 yds/109m

Any dk weight yarn will work for this pattern, but for best results I encourage you to use a fiber with a significant percentage of wool content as it has great elasticity and responds very well to blocking.

Use contrasting colors to get a striking effect.

Finished size: 11” x 11”
