Love is… is a beaded and lacy, top-down, crescent shaped shawl designed to be knit in almost any gradient, semi-solid or solid dyed, heavy-weight lace yarn of around 600m/100g with the exception of alpaca-based yarns – you will need a yarn base that will retain its shape after blocking. The original shawl was worked in PookGB Pure Silk Heavy Lace Gradient, perfect for this shawl.

Yarn and Finished Dimensions: As written 72” (184cm) wide, 20” (51cm) deep after blocking. Measurements taken using PookGB Pure Silk Heavy Lace 600m/100g though this pattern is suitable for most solid coloured, or semi-solid, laceweight yarns of around 600 – 800m/100g with the exception of alpaca based and other yarns that will not hold a block well. Specified yarns include: - Posh Yarns Robynn Heavy Lace, Natural Born Dyers Lorbanery (both exactly the same base as the PookGB Pure Silk yarn). Other suitable yarns are DyeDianaDye FlaxenSilk Lace, Miss Babs Yearning, Miss Babs Dulcinea, Skein Queen Delectable. The follow yarns will be suitable but it might be prudent to have a spare skein as a safety net: - Natural Born Dyers Lustrous Myrka, Lichtfaden Meridian, Lichtfaden Rei Lace.

Circular Needles: 3.25mm (US3), 3.5mm (US4), 3.75mm (US5) and 4mm (US6) about 1m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should not be too dense and should have good drape. You will also need: stitch markers, just under 1300 Miyuki or Toho size 6 seed beads, 1mm crotat hook or 0.75mm crochet hook, needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats.

Gauge: Gauge is not overly important as this is a shawl but a looser gauge will result in an increase in yarn usage. However, the gauge achieved on this shawl was 20 sts to 4” after blocking using 3.5mm (US4) needles over main body stitch pattern (Chart 2).

This pattern is both fully written and charted with bead placement clearly indicated throughout.

You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer, however, coloured pencils could be used to highlight aspects of the pattern and bead placement.
