Growing up in Norway, I´m used to dressing for the cold. I´m also used to traditional cowls, neckwarmers or dickies being quite boring - so I love making variations to pretty them up!
This lovely stitch pattern reminds me of love, so the pattern has a name from the text of a song in a very romantic movie - Moulin Rouge.

Construction:
The cowl or dickie consists of the turtleneck for snug warmth, a pretty front flap - protecting the chest under a coat, and a short back flap to avoid any cold seeping down in the back. It will not bulge under a coat or jacket.
The stitch pattern looks complex, but it´s quite easy once you get into it.The pattern is written, not charted. The back part of the cowl is knitted all plain. It makes for a fairly quit knit.

Sizing:
The sizes are approximate, depending on the yarn:
Small child: 10 cm rib + 17cm wide x 10cm long flap in front (3.9in, 6.7 in x 3,9 in)
Large child: 12 cm rib + 19cm x 13 cm (4.7 in, 7,5 in x 5,1 in)
Grown up: 15 cm rib + 21 x 16 cm (5,9 in, 8,3 in x 6,3 in)
The rib may be folded in half or kept all up, depending on personal taste - and on the weather.

Materials:
Fingering yarn: 40g/50g/75g or sport weight/DK: 70g/80g/100g
The pattern also gives instructions for sport weight or DK weight yarn.
