This hat fits most adult heads but can be easily adapted in size by either adding or decreasing background stitches from the chart. I used a size 2 needle because I tend to knit very loosely. Please be sure to do a gauge swatch for accurate sizing.

The hearts may be outlined with embroidery stitches or not, depending upon your preferences. Also, i frequently use mixed weights of yarn for projects, holding two or more strands together. The color work in this hat would lend itself well to using up bits and pieces of leftover yarn, if you so desire.
