While awaiting the first signs of spring, she remembers the beautiful tulips he planted for her over a decade ago. This memory inspires her to knit a shawl using a gorgeous variegated yarn in the same soft purple that will soon be the crowning glory in her garden.
Your choice of three colors will determine how feminine or masculine the shawl will be.

Size:
Wingspan (tip to tip): 60” / 152.5cm;
Depth (at center): 30” / 76cm

Materials
Yarn:
Malabrigo Sock (Pure Superwash Merino Wool; 3.5oz, 440 yds per skein), or any fingering weight yarn, 3 colors, 800 yds total
Approximate yardage:
MC (black) - 200 yds
CC1 (natural) - 270 yds
CC2 (lotus) - 330 yds
Please note that the yarn used is a light fingering weight. Substituting a fingering (4-ply) yarn will likely require more yardage.)

Needles:
US 4 (3.50mm). circular, 32” (80cm) or longer
Adjust needle size as needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge:
22 sts and 32 rows = 4” (10cm) in garter stitch

Supplies:
4 stitch markers, yarn needle, blocking wires (optional), rustproof pins for blocking

Basic knitting skills, garter stitch, simple color changes, left- and right-leaning increases, picking up stitches, short rows
