Pattern description from Son of Stitch ‘n Bitch: “This started off as a sweater my father asked my grandmother to make for him in the eighties - long before I became a knitter. He wanted a classic Davis Cup-type tennis sweater with cables and snug ribbing at the waist. Her first attempt ended just above his belly button and the sleeves went past his fingertips. After her second attempt came out exactly like the first, my father gave up. Twenty years later, I celebrate my own interest in tennis with a purple and eggplant-trimmed cabled hoodie. My father took one look at it and said, ‘You’re a bit better than your grandmother was.’ This pattern reflects his requirements for the perfect tennis vest: a high V-neck, finished in two-by-two ribbing, that’s roomy enough to allow for easy of movement on the court. And while this classic piece could be worn on center court at Wimbledon or your own neighborhood tennis court, it would look equally smashing in muted blues, greens, and grays at the office or out on the town.”
