Many of my friends have requested a knit replication of their cherished pet. I’ve decided to share some of the designs with the knitting community!

Lovebirds make up a small genus of parrot, called so because of their life-long monogamous affection: these birds like to spend a lot of their time sitting together on a branch, snuggling. Lovebirds are often called ‘pocket parrots’ and are a favorite among pet birds. There are nine subspecies of lovebirds and they come in an assortment of colors, so any color scheme you might conjure up for your own knitted variation, might not be too far from the real thing! Only small amounts of yarns are needed, so a lovebird is a great project to use up any scraps you have lying around.
These birds make great ornaments for your Christmas tree or Valentine’s Day gifts!

Two species are included in this pattern: the ROSY-FACED and YELLOW-COLLARED LOVEBIRD.
These lovebirds measure about 13 cm from head to tail and creating them is a medium level project, that asks for some knitting in the round and flat, transferring stitches, intarsia color work and short rows.
This rosy-faced lovebird was knitted with Scheepjes Riverwashed (944) nile, (948) danube and (954) congo, Scheepjes Soft Fun Denim (506) green and Rowan Felted Tweed (145) treacle. The yellow-collared lovebird was made in Scheepjes Riverwashed (951) amazone and (954) congo, Scheepjes Soft Fun Denim (506) green and (520) yellow and Rowan Felted Tweed (145) treacle. Pipe cleaners are used for the (optional) legs.
