I live in the second oldest town in Washington State… Coupeville. One name you’ll see here often - is Lovejoy. Capt. Lovejoy was a ship builder and carpenter. Many of the remaining historic homes in town were built by Lovejoy… including my own! This beanie pays homage to the idea of building long lasting, beautiful and useful items.

Meant to use up all the remnants of yarn you’ve collected from various projects, I almost called the pattern “Marl Your Own Way” and I kept singing it to the tune of Go Your Own Way by Fleetwood Mac… I went a different direction on the name, but the concept remains. Choose as many yarns and colors as you like / need to achieve an Aran or Bulky weight yarn. Aran weight equivalent will be a softer less structured hat and is probably my personal preference… or add a bit more and make a denser more “intense” beanie! It’s all up to you!

Four fingering weights (plus a lace mohair is my first choice)
One DK and two fingering weights
Two DK
One worsted and one fingering
Aran plus lace

You choose your own adventure. The pattern includes a chart of required amounts of yarn in each weight, in grams. I’ve created 18 hats and have chosen the average amount, and added a bit more for cushion.

I strongly recommend using the smaller needle for the ribbing, but if you ONLY have the larger US 11 - the ribbing can be worked twisted to bring the brim in a bit, but it won’t be quite the same. Workable, but a bit loosey goosey.
