DESCRIPTION
LOVIN FIERCE is a single or double loop cowl knit flat from the top down, with the top and bottom ribbings knit in the round after the side is seamed. The body is knit with a two-row lace repeat pattern in a larger gauge creating different effects depending on how you decide to block your cowl!
SIZES
This pattern allows for customization of the finished size and look of the design! The more aggressively you block it, the more the lace opens up. I find it difficult to decide which I like better! Additional sizes may be made by adding/subtracting cast on stitches in sets of 4. #SizeInclusive
Single loop (Double loop)
Unpinned:
12 x 28 (12 x 56)”
30 x 71 (30 x 142) cm
Blocked w/pins:
14 x 30 (14 x 60)”
35.5 x 76 (33 x 152) cm
Aggressively blocked w/pins & wires:
15.5 x 30 (16 x 64)”
39.5 x 76 (40 x 162) cm
GAUGE, NEEDLES, NOTIONS
Gauge: 27 sts & 26 rows = 4” / 10 cm using smaller needles, worked in the round in 2x1 ribbing stitch, unblocked and unstretched
Recommended Needles: US 6 / 4.0 mm and US 10 / 6.0 mm (or size needed for gauge). 16” circular needle for single loop cowl, and 40” circular needle for double loop cowl.
Notions: One stitch marker, 2 pairs of needle stoppers, scissors, tapestry needle, scrap yarn for provisional cast on and life line, blocking mat, & (optional) blocking wires & pins.
YARN
Single loop uses Madelinetosh DK Twist (Gosia & Viper), a DK weight, 4 ply yarn, 100% SW Merino Wool (250 yds / 229 meters, 100 grams).
Double loop uses Malabrigo Dos Tierras (Plomo), a DK weight, 4 ply yarn, 50% Merino Wool / 50% Baby Alpaca (210 yds / 193 meters, 100 grams).
Solids, tonals, and variegated yarn with short color changes are suggested. Other weight yarn may also be used, but you will need to allow for yardage and finished size differences.
Yardage: Single loop (Double loop)
One Color Cowl:
295 (630) yds / 270 (576) meters
Two Color Cowl:
CA (Body): 250 (605) yds / 230 (555) meters
CB (Ribbing): 42 (100) yds / 40 (95) meters
(Be sure to also allow for yardage changes if you adding or subtract the cast-on number of stitches.)
