Loving memory
This little shawlette was designed in loving memory of things long gone.
Growing up in the 70’ and the 80’, I vividly remember the shelves from my grandmother’s house adorned with handmade lace edgings, mainly crochet (cipca - old Romanian term for little crochet lace). This shawlette has a knitted lace edging and it’s meant to bring back some nostalgia and maybe a warm hug from a loved one from the past.
I’m offering 2 options - one for a very specific to New Zealand yarn - a luxury blend of Merino/possum/silk from Touch Yarns. The other option is the very popular Jody Long Alba - luxurious tweed blend merino/alpaca/viscose.
Please note -these yarns are not worked double stranded, there are 2 different options.
4.0 mm for first option
or 4.5mm for the second one.
My knitting style is very loose - you might want to go up a size if your knitting style is too firm.
Final dimensions: option 1: 160cm wingspan x 60cm deep
option 2: 168 cm x 65cm deep (at the widest point)
Alternatives: approx. 400m-450m of suitable sport weight yarn.
However I believe the shawlette can be worked pretty much in any weight, just use the appropriate size needles - to get the drape, use a larger needle (1-2 sizes bigger) than the band suggests.
The shawlette has a crescent shape and it is worked from one tip to another, with the lace border worked at the same time.
Pattern offers written instructions and a chart for the lace border.
Please make sure you read the whole pattern first. Helpful notes are included in each section.
Easy to adjust to a bigger size -if you need help with this, please message me.
I hope this brings you some lovely memories!
