What makes this pattern better for knitters with low vision?
This pattern has two PDFs; one is white font on black paper while the other is black font on white paper.
The size of the font has been increased to 18pt.
The font used in APHont which was developed specifically to be easier to read for people with low vision.
Margins are increased
All photos remain but are increased in size
Line spacing is increased
Letter spacing is increased
Words per page are decreased
Decorative/Cursive fonts are removed (except on the cover photo)
Pale fonts and unnecessarily colored font is removed
Punctuation is emphasized
Knitting Chart size is increased
All of these changes come from research into making literature accessible and from the suggestions made by a group of knitters with visual impairments. This pattern was tested by three knitters with visual impairments and their notes were taken into account during the final editing.
The pattern features a stitch count for newborns, youth/teen, and adult sizes. There is a knitting chart as well for the pattern repeat.
