Horseshoes have been considered a symbol of good luck by those who believe in superstitions, since the 4th century. The Greeks believed that this ancient emblem used to ward off the “evil eye.” Since horses were held sacred, their crescent shaped shoes became symbols of good luck. Common legend is that the ends must be pointing up (keeping all the good luck in). There are theories that the magic of this symbol is in its shape - that of the horned moon. The ancient Greeks and Romans believed that nailing a horseshoe to a wall was good luck.

These easy cuff down socks have a variation on a well-known knitting pattern – horseshoe lace. This medium – 66 stitch sock, can easily be reversed for a toe up version, but you need to make sure that the luck doesn’t run out! The beautiful heel, the Linen Stitch Eye of Partridge heel really sets the tone for this sock.

Suggested yarns: solid, semi-solid, tonal, lightly variegated, spotted, and lightly striped yarn. It does NOT work well with: heavily spotted or dark spotted, heavily variegated, or dark heavily striped yarn.

Since the pattern is only an 8-row repeat, you can make the legs of the socks as long or as short as you want.
