This is a really old pattern. My grandmother made these hats for us. I don’t know, if she had it from a patternbook or by her own family. I have a cutting from a magazin “Ratgeber Frau und Familie” out of the 1960s and found a printed version of a very simmilar pattern in a knitting book from 1980, “Das große Buch der Handarbeiten Vol. III”.

The knitting is very fast. And just by changing the yarnweight and needlesize you can get hats for all the family.

I give instructions for two adult, two children and two baby sizes.

Erratum:
I made an error in the description of the pattern. The row with decrease at the beginning and increase at the end of the row certainly must be
k2tog, k to 2 sts before end, m1, k2

The download version is corrected and updated 17. Dec. 2015.

Made a small Baby-Lucy - the doll has a head circumference of 36cm/14”. Used up remains of 3ply and 4 ply-yarns knitted on 2,5mm-needles and felted the hat slightly.
