Lucy's Mitts
An elegant little cloche hat called Lucy appeared in the Winter 2012 issue of Knitscene. After making it for myself from a skein of my own handspun and some Manos Silk Blend that matched well, I had plenty of both to make a coordinating pair of mitts. With instructions from several mitt patterns in front of me, and the directions for the linen stitch band from the hat, I soon had a matching hat and mitt set.
The pattern requires between 100 and 150 yards of main color yarn, between 50 and 75 yards of the contrasting color.
These mitts are knit in the round from the cuff up in a dense gauge for warmth. While directions refer to double-pointed needles, feel free to use any other method of knitting in the round that is comfortable for you. If you prefer a lighter fabric, try a DK yarn with needles that obtain the same gauge.
The linen stitch band matches and compliments the band on the Lucy hat seen in the Winter 2012 issue of Knitscene. (Available as a single pattern on Ravelry. Digital issue of the whole magazine can be purchased from Interweave Press.)
